Whats the heck is it? Cant I just shave at home?
Dermaplaning is a non-invasive cosmetic treatment that exfoliates dead skin cells and vellus hair aka peach fuzz. This treatment has little risk of side effects when performed by a licensed professional. There is no downtime required. You can get this facial on a lunch break and people would just comment on how your skin is glowing. During this treatment a sharp sterile surgical blade is used. At home blades are not meant to be used all over the face. The blades you buy at your local store are for eyebrow shaping and have a guard to prevent you from cutting ourself. Blades bought at your local store can cause more damage and irritation than good. Its very important to go to a licensed professional for this one.
What are the benefits?
This treatment helps dull skin by removing dead skin cells, helps brighten your complexion, fine lines and wrinkles, acne scarring, sun damaged skin, helps with product penetration, uneven skin tone and texture, results are immediate, makeup application is much smoother, prevents breakouts, & good for all skin tones.
Can hair on your face grow back darker or thicker?
This is one of the most common questions asked. The answer to that is no. Vellus hair is much thinner than body hair. When you shave hair it can appear thicker or darker on the body because of the dull edge making it appear that way when it grows back. This doesn't apply for the face. The hairs on the face are so thin and soft that removing them will not be a noticeable difference.
Does it hurt?
No, in fact people find it relaxing. It feels like a gentle sweeping motion across the skin.
Can dermaplaning cause acne?
No, it does not cause acne. This treatment can actually help prevent breakouts. By removing the hair and dead skin cells this will prevent less dirt and debris getting trapped in the pores and follicles causing a break out. However, if you have active acne this treatment is not suitable for you.
How long do results last?
Results are not permanent since our skin renews about every 28 days. This treatment is recommended to get once a month. Your results can last anywhere between two weeks to a month.
Who should avoid dermaplaning?
Anyone with active acne, active eczema, active psoriasis, an inflammatory skin condition, sun burn, active cold sores and flared rosacea.
